The Childrens Place

What exactly is a Child Advocacy Center (CAC)?

A Child Advocacy Center is a place
where all the agencies involved in investigating a child abuse case
gather to process the case.

These agencies may include: (but are not limited to)
Alaska State Troopers
District Attorney
Tribal Welfare Worker
Office of Child Services
Medical Provider
Mental Health Provider
Behavorial Health Provider
Advocates of Victims of Violence
CAC personnel

The organization has a set of procedures that will be followed
to insure that all information is gathered correctly in a secure environment.
Interviews are video taped and observed by officals while
only one interviewer interacts with the child.

Our Purpose is:

1) To streamline the interview process of the child so only one interview is done for all representative agencies to prevent re-traumatization of the child.

2) To provide families with counseling and other services during and after the investigation.

3) To increase convictions of sexual offenders.

Since our opening on January 12th 2009, we have interviewed 25 children at the CAC
